Community description:An informational and supportive forum for people with hidradenitis suppurativa.
Hidradenitis suppurativa is a skin condition marked by abscesses and cysts in areas bearing apocrine sweat and sebaceous glands. These eruptions are often misdiagnosed as acne, ingrown hairs, or poor hygiene.

Other names for Hidradenitis suppurativa include:

Acne conglobata
Acne Inversa
Apocrine Acne
Apocrinitis
Fox-den disease (a catchy term not used in medical literature, based on the deep fox den / burrow – like sinuses)
Hidradenitis Supportiva
Pyodermia fistulans significa
Velpeau's disease (after the French surgeon who first described the disease in 1833)
Verneuil's disease (after the French surgeon whose name is most often associated with the disorder)

Hidradenitis suppurativa has no cure, and treatments are largely ineffective. Later stages can be debilitating if not lethal, so care must be taken to retard progression of the disease.

This community is meant to be a support forum for people with Hidradenitis suppurativa.

Feel free to discuss methods of pain relief, treatments, frustrations, etc.
